Over 32,000 people live in the capital city, St. John's. The capital is situated in the north-west and has a deep harbour which is able to accommodate large cruise ships. 

Famous for its rock-cut architecture and water conduit system, Petra is also called the 'Rose City' because of the colour of the stone from which it is carved.

The island has several buildings, the main one being the pilgrimage church dedicated to the Assumption of Mary, built near the end of the 17th century.

Angkor Wat combines two basic plans of Khmer temple architecture: the temple-mountain and the later galleried temple.
